Has anyone discovered/developed a good way to find a place to board a cat while on the road?We want to go to the Northeast from the Phoenix, Az area for Christmas.We cannot envision taking our 20 lb plus cat on the plane so we must find a place to board him for about 10 days. I do not trust Craigslist and of course my wife is very fond of the cat. We would prefer a private home rather than the commercial kennels which we have found by GooglingAny ideas or strategies that someone has used successfully would be appreciated

I used to leave mine in the care of a neighbor. He was just fine, never mind how he ignored me when I got home. I think it's better if they can stay home.

If your cat eats dry food... Put down a big bowl of food, big bowl of water, and an extra large litter box. We leave ours frequently for 7 days with no problem. She is of course excited to see us when we get home but there is always food left and water in the bowl. They are very good at taking care of themselves.When we do go longer, I simply take her to the vet for boarding. Ours is a cat only vet which makes it better. One thing I have learned is boarding an animal is no better than sending your kid to day care. More often then not ours comes home with the sniffles. Which is why we opt to leave her home.

I am sorry perhaps I was not clear.We are on the road and wish to go to the NE for Christmas. Our cat travels with us in our Motorhome. We will be in a strange city where we will know no one. We do not want to leave the cat at a vets or in the motorhome

It's about $18.00 a day and the facilities are very nice and clean.The personnel are very nice and friendly toward pets. He will get played with if he allows it. You'll get a report card.Flying with a cat. . .airlines charge extra ($100 each way on Alaska Airlines) and the cat can fit under the seat!You'll need a vets health certificate (and rabies cert of course). And a soft carrier. . .the medium size Sherpa can fit under a seat but it will be tight. One vet told me that she used the medium size for her dog and flew okay.I use a small Sherpa carrier for an 11 pound cat. . .TSA is a pain. . .you have to ask for a private screening for the cat. Which can be easy if the TSA personnel are properly trained and experienced.On edit:Banfield Pet Hospitalsand VCA Animal Hospitals are national chains. Advantage is once you are in their computer system then you have your pets medical records available in many locations. They are also good sources for reference for boarding.

10 days, two or three LARGE litter boxes, AT least two large self watering dishes, and two large self feeding dry food stations....10 day max.....Never Mind...

I think it is time to close this topic. I asked about help finding a place to board a cat. The thread is noww about boarding dog and getting ripped off.

I'm sorry that you feel "hijacked." Pet Stop people tend to be interested in animals in general and on certain topics, such as boarding, there's not a lot of difference between species.

As a group we are also inclined to take off on the occasional tangent.

Still, you have recieved some helpful info, I think, so perhaps you could forgive those transgressions.
