Border Collie Walk

The Collie Walk
"What do five Border Collies get up to when they're not working sheep? Well, they make their own entertainment ..." :C

It's slow (as BC's can be when working) but watch the whole video to see what happens.

BCSnob:
Do border collies really do this when they are left alone or do you think they were taking directions from the owner off camera??
  • I'm 99 percent sure they were taking commands from off screen. But it was cute.

Me, too. Watching where the dog's attention was gave a few clues.
  • I just wish I could make my dogs walk that slow.

It would be a blessing for me. It's like a 3 ring circus here sometimes with all of them spinning around and hanging off the chandeliers! :B

I still have questions where my mind was when I decided to switch breeds from Great Danes to a small breed. :R
  • Our Border Collie was a city girl first 4 yrs of her life......had never seen a sheep/cow but had a NEED to herd.
So she would herd me around the house/yard.

Then we hit the road traveling and she saw her first 'cows'-----actually herd of Buffalo and she WANTED ----OH how she wanted. :B

Border Collies are One Heck of a SMART dog
  • The slow walk is typical for dogs with lots of eye. Some will "work" other dogs when they are all out together. They are doing that on their own and likely do this every time they are all out together. They were doing the stalking while waiting for the signal to start running. The working other dogs is a bad habit that can lead to bites and dog fights. This behavior is like "herding" kids; it's only cute until it's not but by then the inappropriate behavior is now habitual and self rewarding.
