We started our FT experience nearly 15 years ago with our then 3 cats. They were all adopted from the HS, one at 1 y/o, the other 2 at 7 and 8 weeks/ old. They were loved and are now seriously missed. 1 died at 10, the other 2 last year at 17 and 18.
The answer to your question is that you needn't do anything other than what you likely already do at home. As others have said, keep the litter box clean frequently. Even when we had all three with us and sharing the same box, we had people come into our 270 square feet who didn't realize we had cats (until they were overwhelmed with them, physically, not olfactorally)
For the record, we always used the el cheapo clumping litter from Walmart.
