Catching a semi wild cat

The little Siamese cat that showed up last year is still around. It comes on the porches and it feeds and plays with Garfield. Won't let us near it though. She is not going to be a large cat.
She appears to be pregnant. I don't know how gestation is.
I have some live cage traps but she won't go near. The Opossums and Garfield get the bait though.
Any ideas on how to catch her? I don't want her to have a bunch of little ones, in the woods or nearby and they be wild like her.
We of course can't keep them but we will hopefully find someone that wants them. Ought to be interesting combination. An excellent appearing Siamese and big yellow striped Tom with some wild cat in him.
  • I have several feral cats that stop by to eat and run but had one that I had nicknamed Bigfoot that six toes. Bigfoot would eventually get closer when I was around and showed up with six kittens that were several weeks old. Now I knew, Bigfoot was not fixed and was a mommy kitty. I trapped her and when the kittens came to see mommy I tossed them in too. I only got four kittens and had to trap the last two separately. Jerry

That certainly is the way to trap wild pigs... three sides fence area - start feeding them on the far inside fence side. then slowly close the four walls in just leaving the gate open. works everytime. they keep coming to eat inside the fence with the gate opened. when the time is right just close the gate.

They will still keep eating inside the locked up area...

  • I can't help it, this has to be said.

From your statement, you suspect your cat as being the father. Your cat should have been neutered. It is the responsible thing to do.
  • Some pictures of all these animal adventures you experience would be real nice. Love wildlife shots.
  • First of all I'd put your house cat up during the time you have the live trap out. That should eliminate repeatedly trapping your own cat each time! :B

I was having a hard time trying to trap a wild cat and called the DNR.

The dept of wildlife where I lived said they use fish heads as bait in their live trapping for all animals.

Strange as it sounds I tried it and no animal can resist it. I have caught animals that I have spent weeks trying to catch once I put the fish heads in as bait. No need to play the feed them for days, moving it closer etc.

Just go to local grocery store and buy a couple of whole fish and whack the heads off, put inside the live trap and stand back! :C
  • we used live traps and put food in them, caught mommy, had 4 offspring to catch then. got rid of three kittens, kept one, mommy still hangs around in a fixed condition
I would think some good food would snare her unless neighbors are also feeding her.

  • Set up the traps on the porch or somewhere near a door to the house or where you will be able to be within about twenty feet of the front of it, give or take. Tie the trap open and feed her in front of it for a few days. Then in the doorway. Then an inch inside. Keep going until she's all the way in the back. As you do that, remember that slow is fast. Take your time. Move at her pace. Usually it takes a week, two tops, to get

Feed a good dry food mixed with canned, so she'll show up and eat quickly. She needs nutrition right now. Get her on a schedule so that she's eating the same time each day. Lock Garfield up at her supper time if needs be, or feed him a little earlier.

Once you get her going that direction, I'll type the rest. It's late here :-). Suffice it to say, it can be done, but females are always much more cautious than males.
