This may be a long shot, but I'd test her for Valley Fever / titer counts. There are dogs (like Calvin) that show no other symptoms other then pain.

Edit: Calvin did have a cough, every so often.
That was one of the first things we checked for.. The other morning I thought she was gone. I couldn't detect breathing. Couldn't wake her. I started pumping her chest and to my surprise she came out of it. The following morning, hard to wake up but not as bad. I'm thinking her short breaths doesn't give her brain enough oxygen and she would sleep away. She jumps around excited to eat at meal time so appetite isn't a problem. She's on limited ingredient low fat food and stool is normal but gas pain is a thought. She does gulp (inhale) her food. She can't be chewing it. I'm going to give her some Gas-ex type pills tonight and change her food in the morning. Surely it can't be that simple. Vet mentioned the air tube that enters the esophagus may be restricted. If so, operations don't work well. Another mention is her brain isn't programing her breathing right. She has a slight bronchitis that gives a snoring sound sometimes but thought not to be serious enough to cause the rapid breathing. Sometimes while asleep she breathes normal for a while. We stopped the Tramadol and switched to Novox and Gabapentin.... Thanks for all your concerns and ideas.
