chock full 'o ticks!

We camped for the first time this year up at our property in Northern WI. We hadn't been up since last year, so DH mowed the lawn, and the boys and I waited while he did so.

I had applied a new dose of Advantix for the weim and the cavalier got Frontline. They had their doses last month too. We fogged the campsite and sprayed the ground, just to help keep the B52s (skeetos) at bay.

After dinner we went for a walk. The weim kept to the paved road (both on leads), but the cavalier loved the tall grass. When we got back to the campsite, we did a tick check. OMG! None on the weim, but the cavy had them everywhere. No exaggeration, that was Friday night, and I think I found the last one this morning. Most were not attached, but some were. I would guess he had between 40-50!

Thank goodness I had just trimmed Duncan's hair, or it would have been worse. To make matters worse...he sleeps with us! EEK! We had a couple of crawlers on us, but none attached.

This spring has been horrendous. Cold and wet, rainy, and gray.

Check your babies carefully, and hope you don't have a trip like this one. I think the cavy will get Advantix next time too. No deer ticks, just wood ticks. He's been tested for both heartworm and Lyme and is clear.

As it turns out, he's a tick magnet.

  • Ticks are horrible this year. I pick at least 3 or 4 off my dog every time I take him out to go to the bathroom. I just found one crawling up my leg a few minutes ago as well.
