Combination heartworm, roundworm, flea medication

We used Comfortis for several years for flea control, and our two boxers never had any side effects from it. It worked very effectively. Recently, tho, our vet changed from recommending Comfortis to Sentinel. It combines the worm medication of Heartgard with flea meds, and supposedly has fewer side effects. So far, our boxers have responded well with it.

  • We use Trifexis. Trifexis is a once-monthly tablet that kills fleas, prevents heartworm disease and treats and controls adult hookworm, roundworm and whipworm infections.
  • Boxer mom here, too! My vet stopped selling Frontline Plus after a lot of clients complained about it not working anymore. They now sell Frontline Tritak, the next generation of the drug, I guess. I works for my dogs so far. I'd love to use Sentinel (also endorsed by my vet), but it doesn't kill ticks, so I passed on it. I use Heartgard Plus for Heartworm prevention.
  • Frontline plus is what I always used too. Changed because vet advised they are seeing resistance to the frontline plus because it has been used for so many years. The fleas/tics are becoming immune to it just like some of the human meds and the new super germs with antibiotics. You may want to ask you vet about this.
(We were in the south when advised this).
  • We have 2 boxers too!

I use Frontline Plus for ticks & fleas and it works well. It lasts longer than 4 weeks too. I use Heartgard for heartworms and give it every month and try to have a couple of weeks between the Frontline & Heartgard.
