I used to "own" a beautiful 50/50 APHA black and white (piebald) tobiano gelding who was color eligible to also be registered pinto, so I know what a pie is, what a paint and what a pinto is. This is one reason that I am partial to pies. And pie.
APHA is a horse that is tracable to QH and/or thoroughbred horses. Pinto is a color registry, although most pinto registries don't accept draft types.
There are also Tovero horses, sabinos, etc.
