I'll be dating myself here but back in the 70's the airlines would only accept one brand of crate. If you got to baggage with the wrong type crate they wouldn't ship.
I think 'at the time' the airlines only accepted Vari-Kennel. I definitely know they did not accept any of the pet store off brand type of crates. I didn't know this and was refused boarding of my dog. Again that was back in the 70's.
Now the airlines don't care what brand the crate is. Which goes with what you said about the airlines doing any testing Mark.
But they are REAL anal about putting the dang airline required plastic water food tray in the crate no matter how long the flight. 2 hour flight and you end up with water all over the dog, bed, and crate. And a dog that has to go to the bathroom. :R
