I won a prize for reciting that poem in the first grade, and my mother gave me a stuffed Purple Cow in honor of the occasion. That would have been in 1958...and I still have the cow!

Ha ha! I have recited that poem a time or two or forty for my (younger) husband, especially when Loppy had his special purple cow. The hubs always looked at me like I was crazy. Nope just a bit older..... But not quite your age. :W I would still rather see than be one!

If we're ever camped in the same spot I'd be glad to teach you the prize-winning hand gestures! :B

Poor Gelett Burgess...it drove him bats that everyplace he went folks recited the original at him...his whole life's work forgotten except for that little ditty.
