We live out in the boonies, so I had called both counties' animal control departments; and I was the only one working today, so the vet trip wasn't going to work. Turns out he wasn't chipped anyway (shelter checked). "Animal Control" is a bit of a misnomer around here, hence me having to bring the dog to them AND pay a "surrender fee" of $25. Whatever - he's clearly a beloved family member and they'll get him back safe and sound :-)
