It has been my experience that when a pet passes (for me it was a beloved dog) the first thought is, "No more. Can't handle the pain." However, I believe that they do not rest until we are taken care of again, because that is their loving and faithful goal, to see that we are guarded, noted, close by, and loved. For me there was a palpable sense of relief to accept another puppy, not just for myself but but from the dog that had passed, almost as if she thought, "Ah, at last I can go...another will take my person the rest of the way." They're ever in heart and memory, but the "new" one will come to us with love and needs, and we heal.
