If the cat(s) get hyper and try to run for the door when you stop, I'd definitely do the carrier. Nearly lost our cat one year because of that. Fortunately we caught him after 25 frantic minutes. Never let him out of the carrier until all doors were kept closed and then let him do his "duty". Back in the carrier he went in the tt, then we would get back in the truck and go.
