Rosie has had dreams since she was a puppy. Back then her closed eyes would move and she'd whimper little baby puppy noises. Missing her mom and littermates, I figured. Awwwww She's ten years old now and over the years we've heard some pretty strange soundtracks to the various videos inside her head. One night last week topped them all. We were sound asleep while Rosie was obviously"watching" a horror flick. She started screaming and howling bloody murder. Darcy, on the other side of our bed, simultaneously decided that if something was that BAD she'd howl in terror, too! We woke up with a start and Bud went running down the hall to see if somebody had left the dog door open and a pack of coyotes had gotten into the house. Rosie just yawned like, "What's all the fuss about?" Darned drama queen. :E

Yoop! ... all 4 of 'em dream now on a regular basis...even Carlos who always slept with 1 eye half open.The vet says when they start dreaming they've finally found their forever home.Sweet dreams...

My Brittany, who is 13, dreams all the time. Almost every night. His movements are quite strong, almost alarming, sometimes. He's done that all his lifeThe 2-yo Shih Tzu hardly ever dreams. Only a couple of times that I remember. And yes, he barks/whines/whimpers sometimes when the other dog is "running" and twitching and woofing during a dream.

Our Jack Russell Mix dreams. She give this little, quiet bark/yip and kicks her legs. We laugh about it, saying she's chasing bunnies. But when awake, Roxie will completely ignore rabbits and squirrels. Guess she chases enough in her sleep that she doesn't bother with them. Lol

This reminds me of our local claim to fame, Wm S Hart, the Western silent movie star whose home is now a museum. He had a bedroom made for his harlequin Great Danes, each with their own bunk covered by a Navajo blanket. A man ahead of his time, who knew how to treat his canine buddies. This was in the 1920's, and I've always loved that room at his museum.

My dogs do dream, but Molly is the most active dreamer. She is also the one most likely to want to chase after something, stick her nose in a hole, or try to climb a tree after a squirrel. She makes a noise in her sleep that's somewhere between a bark and a hiccup, and can be so loud it has wakened me on occasion. Shadow and Lily are usually quiet, but do twitch like they are running. With his size and the length of his legs, Shadow is like rockhillmanor's Great Danes: you don't want him near any breakable furniture. Of course, like most greyhounds, he is usually sleeping on a couch or soft bed.

The dogs both dream, the cat dreams, and the bird does too. They all make noises, move, and sometimes even have night terrors (the parrot had an episode last night that had him screaming and flapping about until I turned on the lights and he calmed down after a bit).

Most of the dogs that I have had dream. our newest addition Maggy who we got only a few weeks ago has never barked except once in her sleep.

PS Will be posting an update on her after her spa day today.

Our beagle used to bay in her sleep.

I suspect our brittanys are hunting birds in their dreams.

Yup all my dogs have had dreams.

The Great Danes where the best to watch but you had to make sure they weren't near any breakable furniture when they were! They don't just wiggle their toes they run full force with their entire legs!

And I have now learned a new lesson when dealing with a 13 year small senior......wake them up VERY VERY slowly when they are dreaming or you become part of the dog they were chasing in their dreams before they fully wake up! Had a couple of incidences where there was a blood letting, mine!:B

Soft woofs and little chuckling noises. Sometimes I think he is running away from something.
Other times I know he is clover.

My Tiki-bird frequently woofs and moans in his sleep. Sometimes he shakes, too. He was abused and traumatized when we got him 6 months ago. I hate to think what he's dreaming about. :(
