I think another Brittany or a Golden Retriever would fit your needs. On average I'd say a typical GR is going to require much less exercise than a typical Brittany, although of course the GR is still going to need quite a lot. A Brittany is going to be lighter, so easier to handle as you age if that's a consideration. I'd consider 10 or 12 years down the road when the dog may need help getting in/out of your truck or 5th wheel, and you're going to be older, too.
Personally, we have a 14 year old Brittany and a 3 year old Shih Tzu. Although DH and I are only in our early 50's now, we knew we didn't want to be dealing with a large, elderly dog when we're well into our 60's and might have difficulty lifting 50+ pounds. So we went with something considerably smaller (but sturdy) and easier to handle. And less sheddy. ;)
