Retired Racing Greyhounds are one of the best. They are "45 mph couch potatoes," can walk on a lease, are used to vet visits, nail trims and grooming. When you go a to a track, you can often view 10-20 dogs that are available for adoption. Ages 18 months to 5 years old.
Want to go for a walk? They are up for that. Want to stay in and nap? That is O.K. with them too.
They are gentle, and loving.
We traveled with two for years. You will often see owners with more than one. They are like potato chips, you can't have just one. Another one, or two is in our future.
The other alternative is use a breed selector. This ONE is good.
Once you know what breed is best, look for dogs in a shelter that has mostly that breed. Often a mix is better health wise and behavior wise, than a purebred.
Good Luck in your search.
