Hi,
My three cents worth.
- If you are patient, you can probably "shape" the behavior of most dogs to fit your goals. However, it probably would be easer if you start with a dog that has been breed, over centuries, with the traits that you prefer. There are many websites that can help you with this...without the individual bias you are getting here.
- I think the other, perhaps bigger, part of the equation is you. How patient you are, how much time you are willing to put in, your prior experiences, and your expectations. I really believe that shaping a dog first starts with training the owner (which is the harder of the two to accomplish).
- I highly recommend this book when you get started working with your new buddy.
