Having read all of the posts, I have to agree that a lab would be an excellent choice. Easy to train, loving, protective, and good all around dogs. Two drawbacks: Depending on the breeding they can be large and they shed horribly. Watch out for yellow labs-they have a tendency to be barkers over the other colors. SIL is a lab breeder so that comes right from the source. There are plenty of breeders-just investigate them thoroughly. Some may have "returns" that are older and need forever homes as well as puppies if you want to go through that stage.
