I can get my Lab to go on command. But when we're walking the campground, there's no amount of saying "NO" that will work if he's determined to dump a load. I don't let him wander into someone's campsite in the event that he'll feel the urge. But I like the idea of a DMZ. There's always a kind of "buffer" that I consider to be non-campsite territory.
My former dogs were pretty good about the command "wait" - and the ensuing hustle to get them to the dog area. But my dog Jack was sort of notorious for dumping in the street - which was actually fine with me because it's VERY easy to pick up when your "target" is on asphalt!
