Why don't you go to the University in Madison?

They have THE best vets and vet care up there.

Not sure where in Wisconsin you are from but there is a GREAT vet there. Used him for years and he is, IMHO, just short of a miracle worker when it comes to dogs and can diagnose and treat a problem in dogs like no other vet I have ever used.

She responds to the antibiotic. Last time they put her under and rayed for stones and found none. Really don't want to go that way again, she had a hard time coming out of the sedative. Our girl went through the same thing last year. Our vet said the only way to properly diagnose the bacteria was to get a sterile sample, since when you catch it in a cup, there is bacteria from their outside, if you know what I mean.
After a sterile culture, the lab had to formulate a compound antibiotic since the bacteria was resistant to every antibiotic they tried. It took a 30 day course to finally get her better.
I asked the same thing too, as to why. Our vet said could be from her stools, especially as female dogs get older.

Culture, make sure the antibiotic is taken for the full course, possible X-Rays (and or ultrasound) to rule out stones.

Dietary supplements that acidify the urine will often head off UTI. Vit C, cranberry, and others. Talk to your vet.
