Hope it's OK to start this thread here DOC. HIDEOUT sent me a PM asking if I sent her an email (the red flag was the title to the email was suspicious).When I tried opening to my email account. I found that Yahoo had already locked my account due to suspicious activity (my email account was compromised) till I changed my password.So if anyone received an email from me, trash / delete it as I didn't send it to you. Do a good virus scan. Usually these things grab your address book to send spam. It may have left the capability to send password changes back to the bad boys.

I'll do a manual full sweep every so often. But maybe I should schedule / set the auto sweep closer together.

I doubt anyone specifically in this forum is being "targeted"- the problem has been around for awhile, and it seems to be specific to Yahoo. My husband's Yahoo account got hit a few months ago. I'm the only user at this IP address that ever accesses this forum and my (Gmail) account has remained untouched.

My computer hates anything Yahoo based, and often won't open it. I use gmail.

It's too hot out to do much of anything! Especially since we're not working!

However, I still take him out for our desert walks in the early morning and early evening hours (right at sunset). Plus I take him for about a mile walk at around 01:00. But he's still not getting the kind of exercise he use to get when we were working in Cali.

Prior to initializing my new email password. I did a complete sweep using both of my "paid" AVG and Malwarebytes programs. In which nothing was found.

PS One thing these hacker's look for is an "active" email account. Once found, the hacker will utilize a program (as talked about in the above provided link / article) to find your password which allows them access.

I have received emails as you described, from non-forum readers. Turned out that the two that I got them from had several viruses on their PC that grabbed their address book. They were ones that copied everybody in their address book on an email (don't you just love them). I checked my PC and was clean.

I don't have Yahoo. I have Gmail. And this is the only place where the names on that spam email are located in my contacts. The problem indicates a situation here at the forum.
