Florida bans Greyhound racing.

It looks like lots of Greyhounds will need a new home.

    Might still be able to.
I don't think the change takes place until 2020.

Good luck with that. Greyhounds especially racing ones, are hard to handle. Takes a special enviroment and owner to have a successful pairing. Really don't make good house pets.

    Two things about this:

They have not actually banned the racing, but have banned BETTING on the races.
They think that will effectively kill the racing.

And years ago, the dogs used to be "trained" as guard dogs too. They kind of provided their own security. That hasn't been done, in general, for a long time now and the rescues I've seen are quite nice; somewhat shy even.

I live in Fl, spend lots of time at the dog parks and rehab racers are great pets.
Very grateful for the love. Conditioned to obey.

And since they are (sadly) crate kept, they come already crate trained.

The only negative I witnessed was that some have damaged hips and require meds and close supervision eg they want to run but it makes them sore.

You still can. Ban isn’t until 2021..
  • Gonna be a lot of dead dogs lying in the desert.... Sorry. But a lot of them will make good pets. They really appreciate a loving home and a couch of their own. For those that don't know, if you have a greyhound, any couch is theirs. No question, just a fact!

Nonsense. I've known many rescued racing greyhounds and they have all been very good house pets.

It's one thing to offer a different opinion, another to offer a condescending comment. Several retired Greyhounds have made very good pets. Do you have any personal experience with Greyhounds that would substantiate your opinion?
