Go MIss Scarlett!

Life has dealt our family a blow. DH's only cousin on his Mom's side was diagnosed with glioblastoma, the deadliest form of brain cancer known. She had surgery and much but not all was removed and now she faces radiation and chemo. She is 60. Unfortunately, within 3 days of her diagnosis her husband had to have emergency bypass and then was also diagnosed with THREE glioblastomas in his brain. He remains paralyzed on one side and is in a nursing home at age 62 receiving palliative care for the few months he has remaining. They are the only non-blood relatives in the same household diagnosed since this cancer was identified.

We got in the area the other day and visited the cousin who is living with her Dad, who at 83 is in very good health and is caring for her and taking her where she needs to go so the 3 adult children can continue to work.

She and her husband have a little long haired Chihuahua, Miss Scarlett. She has been shuffled around various places including a hopeful foster situation, but alas, nothing worked out and she was told she would have to give her up. With tears in her eyes she told us she had lost so much already she could not bear the thought.

So her Dad agreed to "give her a try" and let Miss Scarlett move in with them. She is beyond ecstatic and says she feels better already. This week she will get her schedule for radiation and chemo. She has great comfort in knowing Miss Scarlett will be there when she returns from treatment. I'm praying for the healing and comfort we know pets bring to us so that she can get through this trial. I pray Miss Scarlett adjusts to her new home and creates a permanent spot for herself with her Mom and Grandpa.
