GOPetPlan Insurance?

Insurance is just that it pays if you need it is money gone if you don't....... Insurance companies are in business to make money....

We have had several dogs over the years and insurance would not have paid for any of them........

But at this pricing it no longer makes sense to insure a dog past a certain age, a time when one might need the insurance most (unless the premiums do not go up as much when you already have a policy).

P.S. It is understandable why the rates go up quite a bit as the dog ages.

I have GoPetPlan for my two dogs, both mixed breeds (makes a HUGE difference in price compared to purebred). I've never had to use it, but would rather have it and not use it than not have it and need it. Years ago, hubby was laid off, I had to make "the decision" because I could not afford emergency exploratory surgery. Won't happen again, as long as I can afford the monthly payments for insurance.

I had VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance) before GoPetPlan, but they did not cover hereditary problems (I had a full GSD at the time). They also had a YEARLY limit on what they would pay out. As far as I know, GoPetPlan has no yearly limit (they have a lifetime limit) and they do cover hereditary problems (NOT pre-existing). I have NOT had to use GoPetPlan (fingers crossed) but I DID use VPI and the insurance DID run out before the year was up---I was not happy. That's why I switched.

I might add that I am not very disciplined at saving money for something specific---I would end up dipping into the money set aside for vet bills on something else.

It was easy to assess the impact of age on premiums from this company.

Bronze, $200 deductible, 80% reimburs. 1.5 year old Border Collie => $32/month
Bronze, $200 deductible, 80% reimburs. 11.5 year old Border Collie => $105/month (costs more than max annual payout)
Life expectance in our dogs is 13-16 years.

Another eye opener for all would be the impact of breed on the premium.

I run the numbers every few years, but I've never been able to make pet insurance make sense for us. Before signing off on anything I would very carefully check the fine print on the policy (not just the vague stuff on the website) about exclusions on hereditary and pre-existing conditions and on whether or not there's any sort of cap on premium increases as the pet ages.

I also have Banfield but Sparky might need live care so was just looking...

I don't use pet insurance, but all my pets are on wellness plans from Banfield. It's more for maintenance vs emergency, but for $30/mth I can go to the vet anytime I want, get all shots, dental cleanings, and more. Plus you get discounts on things like surgery, prescriptions and other things you need to buy through the vet. the nice thing about Banfield is that they are all over the country. I was in MD recently (live in FL now) and 2 of my dogs got into a tussle and I took one into the vet to get him checked out. I was able to go to the local Banfield at no charge and have him taken care of. The only thing I paid for was some anti-biotics.

I've considered getting insurance plans for the what if, but I've saved thousands of dollars between 4 dogs and a cat over the last 16 years using Banfield. The odds of something major happening that require giant expenses is low, so I roll the dice and tick with maintenance vs emergency. I also figure that the money I've saved over the years will balance out if I have something major go wrong. (Knock on Wood)

OK, so Murphy is gone over the rainbow bridge? and Ollie is the new kid?

Is this the company that you use and/or is the plan and payments similar to what Ollie has now?

I only have 1 Chi and he is 11 years.
