I dont mean that there are dogs running everywhere but dogs are often not treated or cared for the same by everyone. It's probably more of a rural issue but as I said I did sees packs of dogs near Hobby airport. - doxiemom11Explorer III follow tracysdogsadoptions, which is a non-profit rescue started by a woman in San Antonio that monthly rescues around 100 dogs from 3 shelters near the border. Most were stray or abondoned dogs, most have some health issue , many of them suffer from mange, fleas, ticks, heartworm and starvation. In 5 years she has saved and found families in the north for over 3,000 dogs with monthly trips north to various locations to deliver the pre-adopted dogs. The dogs are vetted and cared for until ready for their new home. It is simply amazing what she has accomplished after losing her job and starting this rescue.
- colliehaulerExplorer IIIWhile most of us view pets as family that is not always the case. Some people are barely able to care for themselves let alone a pet. Some people are just plain stupid as well.
The sad part is a lot of lives will be lost including lot's of pets. - Edd505ExplorerThey are part of the family, would you leave the kids? No and not pets they depend on their owners.

Cruel or dumb? I suggest most were dumb.
To do something that stupid they were looking at dumb in the rear view mirror. They were far beyond dumb. Very far. - rv2goExplorer IIThanks for the reply. I guess I just never looked for dogs running around. I will be staying/crossing Texas again in November. I will make note of the dogs I see.

I certainly dont condone it but have you been to all parts of Texas? Go look around some time.
I don't understand your statement. :h I have been all over Texas.
Could you explain?
Lots of sources about stray and abused dogs in Texas. I was looking at property near Humble with black top street with a dog smashed in the street with blood running out. I dont know if it was their dog but people were sitting outside in front of the house didnt seemed bothered. There are often dogs left loose laying out in the street or chasing cars.
We also looked around Livingston and found it common for a pack of dogs to come running out when driving past properties. Also common around Bedias.
I went down to the SW side of Houston to look at a motorcycle and got off track hear Hobby(?) airport East of 45 where I shouldn't have been and drove past two packs of large dogs.
The numbers for places like Houston may be exaggerated but there are a lot in the rural areas. My son has been down there about 10 years and said he sees it a lot and his city recently sent out a notice about it being an increasing problem. He has 2 acres and fenced it along with an electric gate opener primarily for that problem. We also ran across it a lot in Tenn.
When I was a kid in Mich it was common for people to keep dogs outside and it wasn't unusual for dogs to get run over. Our dogs are pretty much like our kids but it's not true for all people. In fact it's still far different for some people in some areas. - rv2goExplorer II

- dturmModeratorI know with Katrina many of those decisions were made because shelters refused to take animals. Most FEMA state and local agencies have changed to allow certain shelters to allow pets.
No excuses, IMO
