Sounds like you've got a handle on it now and loads of good advice.
I just wanted to add one thing I've learned from my dog. Like many folks, I use cheese or something similar to hide the medicine, and often he would notice the pill and spit it out. Now I always have two "clean" bits with no meds.
Treat #1 is all cheese (or hot dog, etc.), no meds.
#2 has the meds.
#3 is another clean, no med piece.
I found that doing it this way he is focused on getting that last piece and swallows #2 without a moment's hesitation.
