I've used the pill in the throat method for years after a vet showed me how. Some dogs (and humans) won't like it but it works fine with our Springer spaniel. I put it near the back of his tongue with a thumb, hold his snout in the air and with a swallow, it's down and then he gets a treat after. Takes only seconds if done right. Dog slober all over your hand is the worst part. Unlike other dogs I've had, our Springer is super gentle and lets me do things previous dogs wouldn't.
DW uses the disguise-it-in-food method but our dog is smarter than he looks and often licks the food off and spits the pill out. :R Then I get called in to do the job.
