Jake Without Jesse

I was so worried when we lost Jesse that Jake would soon follow suit due to a broken heart. I am happy to report I was SO wrong. We lost Jesse a week ago Friday and that night Jake was visibly and vocally upset. Over the weekend he was a lost sole but last week he slept in his crate all night with no issues. We have started taking him places again as we had stopped due to Jesse. Yesterday he did two long beach walks with more enthusiasm than I've seen in a while. He's a happy boy which is coming as a huge surprise as he was so attached to Jesse. We could not be more pleased.
  • The added attention from you is helpful. Glad to hear he’s doing better.
  • That's so good to hear. Having had eight dogs over the course of our marriage and two right now, when one passes, the remaining suffer visibly, but it seems to pass. One of ours, a Rat Terrier, took the last loss hard and took nearly a year to warm up to a new addition, but all is well now.
  • This was my experience, too - they need a bit of time to mourn (don't we all?) and then they move forward. All the extra attention we heap on the remaining pet is probably good for us, too ;-)

Yes we help out each other. Still very hard when you have had a dog that needed special care you kind of feel lost. The only thing that helps is the passage of time.
