Kirkland Dental Chews

My Shih Tzu is having runny bowl movements since I switched her over to the COSTCO brand green Dental Chews. Any bodies dogs had the same problem? Didn't have this problem with the Greenies brand but got tired of paying for a packet of 20 and it would only have 19.

I would have to concur with this statement. :)
  • We've switched to the Kirkland brand with no problem with our 3 dogs. They love them.
  • Our vet recently put our dogs on Oravet chews. They supposedly have a "medicinal" ingredient as well as the mechanical stimulation. The combination is supposed to reduce/eliminate plaque and tartar, with the hope that the need for physical cleaning (oral prophylaxis) will be reduced/eliminated. They aren't cheap, but if we can avoid a general anesthetic, I'm all in. Our two small dogs tolerate them well. BTW, DW brushes the girls' teeth every night before bedtime! :B

  • We tried the Kirkland dental chews. She didn't get the runs as they weren't in the system long enough. She threw up in about 2 minutes. Took them back. Depends on the dogs system I guess. Ours has a sensitive stomach and has to be on a low fat diet.

  • We give our Chihuahua the Kirkland Dental Chews, no problems.
Our neighbor's Labrador also eats (inhales) them with no problems.
  • I guess the obvious answer is to return to the first brand...even if they shorted you one. Your dogs' "internal" health is more important than getting 19 instead of 20.
  • Never tried the Kirkland brand, but had very good luck with Trader Joe's Mint A-Breath Dog Bones. I cut the greenies in half with wire cutters for Katie. Actually it's the only greenies she will eat.
