Funny you should ask! We actually went to the rescue shelter to look at a different dog, but the meet and greet with Maddie was a disaster. That dog was very aggressive towards her. We then asked the adoption counselor if they had any other dogs that might be a good match for Maddie and for us, and she recommended Kramer. I guess he chose us! :B

I would say your both pretty fortunate that you found each other. I have to tell you how we adopted our little red Boston.

The DW was playing on the internet one night and she mysteriously found her way to a local rescue website. Here was a picture of a little red Boston which we're Boston lovers to begin with. He was a special needs little guy estimated to be 2 years old. Because of a birth defect he only had one eye and his little teeth were a mess and we knew the dental expense came with him. He was a breeder in a puppy mill and a walking frame.

I called the lady who immediately ask if there would be any men in the home. I told her yes and she said he's terrified of men and didn't know if it would work but she brought him to our home the next night. I met them at the door our other 3 Boston's were in the back yard. I opened the door and went up to the top of the steps and sat in the middle of the floor and told her to just put him down on the floor.

He looked up at me setting on the floor and bounded up the steps jumped in my lap and starts kissing me as if to say "Dad I'm home". Well the rest is history and we've never looked back. He is one of 2 of our camping buddies.

Awweee, as someone who fosters small dogs for a local rescue, I love hearing stories like this! The owner of the rescue I foster for told me one time, that no matter what's going on with a dog, there's SOMEONE right for that dog out there somewhere. I've learned that she's definitely right! The following foster story is my best example of this to date.

I recently fostered an obese, creme dapple dachshund, Smokey, who was extremely snarky and ill-tempered. His owner had died suddenly, and in addition to him grieving for his lost owner (a single gentleman), he hadn't been well socialized to begin with. I was afraid I'd end up fostering him forever. I worked hard at getting him to lose weight, teaching him basic manners, and taking him out in public frequently to face a variety of situations. Finally, a couple (experienced doxie people, no less) inquired about him, and I warned them that he was very slow to warm up to new people. Fortunately, they still wanted to meet him, so I said a prayer and met them at Petsmart (Smokey had bonded with me by then and didn't like strangers entering our house, hence the meeting on neutral ground).

I immediately had the couple each give him several of his favorite treats right away, then we all sat on the floor right in the middle of Petsmart! He walked right into their laps, and they were in love. I was absolutely flabbergasted! He never shied away from their touch, growled, or barked at them - his typical behavior with strangers. It was a match made in heaven and was meant to be!

Later, through continued contact with the couple, I found out that the man's brother had been killed while being robbed a few months before they adopted Smokey, and the man was understandably depressed about it (the killers were caught and recently indicted). I think that he and Smokey are helping each other heal from their losses. I still get teary-eyed thinking about it.

What an awesome story and I agree with you 100% that there is always someone special for every dog out there and you just have to find that person. I also believe that a rescue dog is aware that you rescued them and they will show you that they know that and Thank You for it daily.
