Lee, sheepdog in training

The boys, Grant & Lee, are not 15 months old; their training is progressing in spurts due to hot weather, ever present farm chores, and trying to get the older dogs in shape and tuned up for a trial.

Here is a short clip of Lee working on gathering. You get to see it from both sides of the outrun; running from my feet out behind the sheep and from behind the sheep watching Lee run out and come in behind the sheep.

  • Lee's mom won this past weekend against 89 other dogs and grandmom Peg placed 5th (in a 3 way tie for 3rd to 5th).
  • It certainly is easy to see how important one dog can be. It's great watching them do what they are born to do.

  • He's a work in progress. I'll put off control a bit while working on instinctual aspects of the livestock work.
  • Lee looks like he has been doing it for years. What a great looking dog Mark. Thanks for the clip, I enjoyed watching it.

  • The clip shows him at his best and likely what he will mature into; what I didn't show is Lee's rash young dog exuberance.
  • It looks like Lee is learning quickly and doing a good job.
    Thanks for sharing.
