Living up to my name. . .

As Scottiemom, I was mom to two Scottish Terriers, Bailey, a black one and Neal, a wheaten or white Scottie. Bailey died in 2009 and Neal in 2010, so we have been dogless since then. We had always wanted to go to Alaska and didn't want to take dogs (yes I know you can), so we didn't rescue any. We did our Alaska trip this summer and it was glorious!

Last spring while camping in a resort and visiting friends, we observed a man walking a Scottie. I followed him home that afternoon and we sat and talked "Scotties" for hours. I told him all about my two. Finally he told me he was going to be going full time and needed to find homes for a couple of his Scotties. I was stunned! I told him we wouldn't be ready for dogs till fall since we were on our way to Alaska. He said that fit in with his timeline and we decided to stay in touch.

This weekend on the way home from our daughter's in Virginia, we met him in West Virginia and we now have two girls home with us! They are Butterscotch, a wheaten/white Scottie and Duchess, a black.

We already love them. I think they are bored because they lived on a farm and had the run of the place. It will be an adjustment for them, but we love them dearly!

I hated taking them from their home, but Pat said with five dogs and just him. . . they never got quality lap time. Plus he worked and would be gone a lot. They now each have their own human and will rarely be left alone.

I will try some pix, but I am not very good at it.

  • God bless you for taking them in. Maybe you should call yourself Scottie Angel.
  • What a great story!!!! I'd say fate put both of you in the same area to connect.......have fun with your new girls!!!
  • Wow really happy for you guys! Congrats on your two beautiful girls!

  • Serendipity, all around.

They are lovely, thanks for sharing.
  • BTW.. The Wheaton, Butterscotch, is already my lap dog. Her previous "Dad" told us that she wanted a human of her very own and not to have to share with 4 others. I guess I fit the bill.
  • That is such a sweet story! I'm sure everyone has been Blessed by this chance encounter!
