Losing our pets

I see we lost 3 dogs last week. I just want to say how wonderful it is to be able to post our grief and receive the support from this forum. It helps to know so many people - and people we haven't met for the most part - are there to share how absolutely right and good it is to love our animals so much. I believe they are gifts from the Creator to keep us aware how important love is.

  • While our dogs teach us many things in life, in death they teach us how to say good bye, to grieve, and to love again.
  • I'd also like to add that if I don't send my condolences it doesn't mean I don't care or I'm not thinking of you. It just usually means I just can't deal because for some reason it hits too close to home.
  • I agree. Today marks 4 years since we said goodbye to lady. We had 17 great years with her and no dog can ever compare to her. Miss her still, her collar, tags and a picture is hanging on my wall.

I sincerely believe that when we were young and a pet died that it prepared us for life to come.
  • I'm just an old softy, and it always gets me in the heart when I read one the pet obits. At times I say to myself "I can't read anymore of these", but I always do. I don't always reply, sometimes I do, but the sting of losing our Chester back in '05 is still there, so I know how it hurts. We all grieve in our own way, and I think it does help to receive support from those that understand. Amazing isn't it, how attached we get to our little critter kids. :)
  • Barb, I have seen 4 posts where pets have crossed over to rainbow bridge. I thought the same as you as this seems a high number in such a short time. It makes me very sad for the beloved owners to the point I have held mine a little tighter and have given them more kisses than normal.
  • Winter seems to be a bad time. Chronic, lingering problems seem to get worse and finally reach the critical point. I know we have seen this with our own dogs over time, all have gone between October and February.
