Lost Dog Anchorage AK

I'm on the SMART caravan to Alaska and we're currently at the Golden Nugget RV Park in Anchorage, AK.

Yesterday July 30 around 10 am, my friend's little dog ran off after being frightened. His name is Woody, he is a four year old, eight pound chihuahua. He is very timid and was a rescue dog.

My friend is heartbroken! She was away when it happened and has been searching continuously. All of us in the caravan are doing everything we can to help find Woody.

I know it's a long shot, but if anyone here is in Anchorage right now, please keep an eye out for the little fellow. I'm afraid he won't last long in this traffic.

  • I hope for a good outcome for all.

T'is a good time to remind people visiting Alaska & Yukon to keep their small dogs on leash when out with them, and to NOT leave them unattended outside, tethered or not.

In Whitehorse, the coyotes take numerous cats & dogs each year. One cat-owner posted in her cat's obituary in the paper that she watched helplessly as a coyote scooped up her cat from her yard.

Eagles snatching up small dogs is not myth. A few weeks ago, the Yukon Electrical Company Eagle webcam in Whitehorse was shut down for several days while the three eaglets dined on a Chihuahua brought to the nest by the parent bald eagles.

    Very sad, every story.

I wonder if someone took him in.

That is what I think happened. There are a lot of kids in this neighborhood and Woody is very cute. If someone took him in, thinking he was a stray, I hope he went to a loving home.

Newspaper ad will run tomorrow, I'm wishing for the best!
  • Oh no!
    Pleez get home little Woody!

Wishing there was some way we could help out.
  • Pound has been called, I've posted a Craigslist ad and the owner has put an ad in the local paper. We've also papered the surrounding area to a 2 mile radius with flyers offering a reward.
  • Oh my God . . . I'm so sorry. I too would be heartbroken. Contact the local pound too.
