Based on my personal observations, dog/wolf, dog/fox and dog/coyote matings are quite common.
I didn't say it never happens- but as indicated by the article in the opener, it's not widespread/usual enough to show in whole-genome testing.
I'd also like to add that I don't agree with the other conclusion in the opener. I think it's a stretch to tie that study to any conclusions about diet.
