Poor guy....
I know BenBen has been through chemo and that's probably what prompted the skin reaction/infection; but I'm going to throw this out there for anyone else:
Jack the Cattle Dog, who was basically "bulletproof" - went crazy itching one night. Took him to the Vet the next morning, and she wasn't sure what triggered it, but gave him some meds (prednisone? maybe?) to stop the itching. About a week later, Ed was eating some red licorice, shared a bite with the dogs - and within an hour, Jack was scratching and rolling again. We never confirmed it - but thought maybe he had grown allergic to red food dye? We never let him eat anything red, after that, and he never got itchy again.
