I do believe the abuse of falsly using a dog as a "Special" service K9, has reached the point of the handicapped parking permit! During this past winter here in central Florida, I observed far more "Special Service" dogs ( wearing in some cases what appeared to be home sown) signage.
I have no idea how this is regulated (if any) but, and I'm no expert, the dogs I saw appeared to be family / yard dogs!
Looks to be the new rage of making a sign / or ordering online a sign and attempting to take lil' snoopy into theaters, restaurants, malls, etc.
If it makes you feel any better... My wife ordered a "Service Dog" pack for our NON barking 9 lb MinPin online for $20. It is a "homegrown" sign and badge. The best part is it came from Tampa!
LOL
Am I reading this right? Did your wife order a service dog kit for a non-service dog? If so, that's pretty disgusting. It takes about 3 years to properly train a service dog. These dogs are carefully selected for the best traits. The recipients are folks that truly need a service dog so they can function at a basic level of independence. Our friends, who train these dogs, share letters from these folks showing how grateful they are. Anyone who just buys a service dog vest so they can carry around little foo foo is subhuman.
Yes you read it right! Anyone can do it... if you've got 20 bucks and a computer. The point is that there are more fake "Service Dogs" than real ones. It is horrible and I don't agree with it one bit. The DW got it to prove a point. That anyone can get them. Answer a few questions and presto you have a SD. It has never been used nor will be as we do not have a "Service Dog"! Google "Service Dog Credentials" and enjoy the reading.
