Sorry, PDX, I realized afterwards that you were kidding. Every time I hear the name Alsatian, I still get embarrassed over something that happened many years ago, when I still had my dear GSD, Dash, who has since passed to the Bridge.
I was hiking with my dogs, including Dash, when we were approached by a fellow hiker who inquired in a distinctly British accent, "Is that an Alsatian?". With an air of certainty, I replied,"No, that's a German Shepherd". With a voice and look that clearly said, "Dumb Yank", he replied, "It's the same thing". I have never made that mistake since. :o
