My new friend, he'll never replace Earl but he is with me

I had my best friend ,Earl, put down February the 9 2014. Saturday April 19 My wife and I got a new friend, We had to rename him Storm. It was explained the new buddy doesn't replace your old one but it is more like another chapter in your life.I don't have any kids but when I lost Earl it was like a part of me was gone There was a hole inside of me.I had to start looking for another dog. My wife found him on the internet. We were lucky enough that a customer of mine who has a kennel, Tip Top Kennel, in New Jersey, was about 20 minutes from his house. His former owner was moving and didn't think it would be fair to him to stay in an apartment. So, Rick and Pam checked him out and did temperament tests on him. That he passed. Then he trained him for 2 weeks to help me out. He stayed with me one week and he has really come around. This weekend we went on our first camping trip together. He isn't very good with steps a 4 year old dog that can't do steps.Storm rides well and stays in the 5er good. No we didn't lock him in all day or any thing.If anyone wants to see a pic there are 2 links on face book. I guess you will be able to check him out. He is a white GSD,he hasn't achieved Earl status but I really like him.

I want to thank everyone that replied to me with reassurance and support when I had to have Earl put down. I have turned the page to the next chapter. The previous chapter will be a hard one to beat.

    YEA! We have pictures!

    He is one handsome boy. And very lucky to be a camping dog!:C

    Step Training:
    When we rehab greyhounds one of the things we have to to do before they can be adopted is teach them to use steps.

    One quick way for you is to put a treat on every each other step. That makes them stop and think to get the first treat and then without thinking they walk up to get the next one which is 2 steps away. Soon they just take to the steps with no problem. The steps in you house would be the place to start.

    Regarding the steps. Do you have an RV step carpet over your steps? Most dogs don't like stepping on those metal grate RV steps.


    He don't even do the steps at home. We have four at the house and he just launches to the top. We gotta do something he ain't gonna be young forever.

    I never knew they existed till a month ago. They do pop up I think but The man who did Storms temperament tests said he knows a lady who breeds white ones. She is in Jersey. If you want one Try tip top kennels on face book or send me a PM and I'll give you the kennels #.

    He's a beauty, congrats! I wonder if the white GSDs just pop up in a litter or i they are their own breed? Some people use a roll-on sunscreen on the pink nose to protect from sun damage re: no pigment. The roll-on supposedly lasts longer. Storm just looks so at home with you, it's wonderful.

    I am probably gonna get hollared at for this one, sorry moderators.

    The one pic is earl the white GSD is storm I saw the similarities so I posted it. I did buy a 4 door truck to take the dog Camping.


    I bought the first 4 door truck for Earl. I bought the 4 door dually for us.

    The links you posted in your original post will not work because you have the 'privacy' box checked you need to go in and change it to public viewing allowed for us to see it. Which you really shouldn't.

    Go to tinypic.com and upload a picture from your computer and they will give you a working link that starts and ends with the letters img within a bracket. copy and past it into your post.

    I like the analogy of a book! I just started a chapter called "Ben" (now a year old) - and he does some things that can only lead me to believe a special dog at the Rainbow Bridge is giving him directions??? :-)
