I think some kind of confinement might be in order.
Now, I come from a family that blocked entrances to doors to rooms with carpet, so we confined dogs from said rooms until they were trained not to to there.
We used a piece of board that could be slid across the doorway. In one house I had to get a stronger barrier and had a solid core door cut in half and attached a half to each of the two entrances to carpeted room with hinges, latches, as one does for regular doors.
With something like that you would turn on a light switch before you entered a room where you dog is at night. I also like the idea of speaking to the dog first.
