Ms. Jazzie went to doggie heaven on Saturday, August 16. My heart is totally broken and my head is spinning with the possibility that my vet might have done 2 things that could have caused this.
I never was able to give Jazzie anything other than the Royal Canin I/D low fat before her passing so food was not the reason she had another bout with pancreatitis on Saturday morning.
On Wednesday August 13 we retested her glucose to make sure the amount of insulin she was getting was correct. My vet called me to inform me that her levels were under 100 so she would not need the insulin so I stopped.
On Thursday August 14 her liquid Trilostane med came in for her cushings. My vet told me to start her on it on Friday and if started vomiting quit.
About 3am on Saturday August 16 she started throwing up and it continued until about 8am. In the meantime I had emailed my vet telling her what was going on and she said she have never had a dog throw up on the first dose.
At this point I decided to take her over to the emergency hospital. They questioned why I was given the liquid form and not the capsules of Trilostane and I told them I wasn't offered an option from my vet. They informed me since the liquid form is mixed with oil they have seen it cause pancreatitis!!! What - I am trying to get her over the first bout of this!!!
They ran a lot of tests and also found out her blood sugars were real high. So she should have continued on insulin.
Both the vet tech and Dr. at the emergency hospital were so wonderful but they let me know I had a very sick dog and no matter how much money I spent her chances were slim of being able to recover.
I could say more but right now I am just so sad and feel I let Jazzie down and it just is killing me.
