IMHO people make too much of a deal about grain free diets; it's just another human fad (or marketing gimmick) with little scientific basis. Dogs, genetically, are able to digest starches (cooked grains). Unless the dog has an allergy to a grain, there is no medical reason to exclude the grain from their diet.
If one really feels dogs, generally no longer can thrive of diets with grain; perhaps the poor genetic health (low diversity) of breeds is the source of this.
