Need Ideas for Care for Dog While Away

We are planning a camping trip with others all meeting at Watchman park in Zion National Park. Turns out the National Park is not dog friendly, can't have your dog anywhere except one trail within the campground. We will be camping 3 weeks so don't want to leave her home. If we take her with us, at Zion the days include group bus tours to various sites and no dogs allowed. With it so hot I am uncomfortable leaving our dog in the camper, worried about power faiure or system problems. I know there's RV Nanny and similiar hi-tech devices for this but these have issues, they depend on cell service which is scarce in this part of the country, and even if I'm contacted I can't get back cause we are on a bus with others! Are there dog sitters we can pay to stay at our camper with our dog for the day? Babysitters? Any other ideas? Has anyone else run into this before?

  • We generally look for a pet resort, since our dog is young and active and enjoys playing with other dogs. If it's a fly-away trip, she has a favorite place we take her at home. Before the first one, we took her there several times so she would get used to the other dogs and people, and she learned that we were not abandoning her. We still take her to day camp there, just so she thinks of it as her second home.
  • We look for a close by local kennel. Be sure you have proper vaccination certificates for boarding for the day or longer. As donwtheroad mentioned ALWAYS inspect the facility first.

Here is one at Zion. There are others. Just 'google' "dog kennels zion national park."
