Oh no how do we.......

We have two rescue dogs. They are a Jack Russell and a beagle terrier. They came to us a year ago and they were a year old. Had a tough start and they are having a hard time adjusting to riding in the truck. Give me some ideas to try. THANKS

X2 With the addition of a thunder shirt or calming hormones. (Available in (Pet Smart)
  • We're having a bit of the same problem, but ours screams if we leave him even for a moment. Someone said to try a peanut butter filled kong. It might work for you, but Duncan will not be diverted.
  • Thunder Shirts work great for anxiety. You can also take short trips and make them fun for the pups so stop to play or give them treats along the way. You may only go around the block or a mile down the road and turn around. If they're really upset, you might want to just sit in the truck with them and not go anywhere. Work up to starting it and sitting in the drive then ease into short trips. Use toys, treats &/or verbal praise and lots of petting to reward them.

It's also important for you to remain calm and not anticipate their anxiety.
  • anxiety mostly. Trying a booster seat so they can see. Just seems like they had a bad experience with a truck
