Opossums

Second or third time. Dakota heard something on the rear porch. He ran to the door. I turned on the light and opened it.
A not full growed opossum was eating Garfield's food.
He ran out and sniffed it, wagging his tail. he was going to be friends?
The opossum grabbed with his teeth. Dakota grabbed it by the throat hard and threw it around once and dropped it. It wasn't dead, just playing possum. He couldn't decide if he needed to chew it again or what. I called him back in. A little laater looked out and it was gone.
Dakota is half pit bull and half terrier, supposedly. He bites bones in to pieces.
Evidently, he didn't like the taste or he didn't want to kill it.
Will see next time. He's been nervous for three days. I've been hearing some kind of stirring or commotion, on the rear porch and front porch. Whenever I look there is nothing there. Bet it racoons. Have to bait the traps again.

I don't know where you live, nor does it matter much, but leaving pet food outside is just plain an invitation to critters to dine at your place.

This is very dangerous to your pets and your family.

Wild animals eating from your pets food supply a) might not be healthy, and b) might not eat all the food it infects.

If you don't leave out that invitation, the animals won't come in to feed.
