Our Yorkie is panting a lot??

She started panting end of last week. I really didn't notice but my daughter did. She doesn't pant when she's sleeping or when you're talking to her. I am dumb founded. I did look at Cushings disease in dogs and the symptoms and I don't think it's that. I will call the vet and get her checked out. Anyone experience this with their pet?

  • My first poodle, many, many years ago had a heart problem at 10 years, was put on a tiny heart pill, then eventually Lasix.
She did pant a lot but with her diet and keeping her weight down, plus the medication she still lived a long life. I felt really blessed to have had her for seventeen years.
Best to let the vet diagnose...how old is your pup?

Just saw she is eight years old.
  • What Doug said.... Hope it is nothing major but a good going over with xrays would be my plan
  • Thanks Dr. Doug :) Maddie is an 8 year old yorkie. I agree about getting her checked out, too many different answers in the cyber world lol!
  • Too many potential causes to speculate. The best course of action is to have your vet listen to heart/lungs and discuss the situation. S/he may want to get XRays of the chest.

This is a very common condition in old dogs (Old dog lungs - kind of similar to COPD in people). Right now Charmin pants pretty frequently (not just hot weather related).
