Papers needed to cross into Canada with 2 dogs?

I did this once before a long time ago but want to make sure there are no problems. I know my vet can give me papers for my 2 dogs to cross into Canada from the US. I was told the papers are only good...

We traveled into Canada last year with 3 dogs. Going into Canada they didn't ask, it was coming back into the US when they ask if we had all the paperwork on the dogs. We just said yes, we had all the paperwork and we were waved forward. No problems.
