As far as environmental impact is concerned, given the tens of thousands of raccoons, coyote, squirrels and other denizens of the wild that are found at the State Parks; dog manure is no different. The problem is, dog droppings are found where people tread. Also, of necessity we limit their travels, concentrating the "drop zone". Hence we need to pick up after our pets.

I am not sure I would agree with that. Wild animals eat stuff from nature which usually biodegrades over time. Dogs eat man-made products full of chemicals and other **** that don't break down the same way. You could go as far as saying the horses poop is really just grass/hay so it's not bad for the environment either.

I've never seen anyone ever picking up their horses poop. Even at horse shows where there's horse poo everywhere. The good thing is, like I said above, it's mostly just grass.

While I do pick up after my dog, sometimes the kids take her for a walk and I know with certainty that as many times as I tell them to pick up the poop if she poops, that they (being kids) do not pick it up.
