Poor Peg

Yesterday when I came home Peg jumped up and tried to run to the door to see me. She was very uncoordinated and was sliding around on the tile floor. We thought she may have pinched a nerve in her back when she missed jumping up the two steps at the back door; her back legs looked weak trying to stand. She was looking & moving great that morning.

However, later that evening she vomited, we noticed her eyes twitching, and based on the way she was moving outside during a bathroom break we figured she has idiopathic vestibular disease. Peg is the 3rd of our dogs over the years to get this. Overnight the poor girl peed while laying on the dog bed and ended up laying in her pee overnight. :( Such an indignity for a grand old girl who will turn 14 the end of this March.

  • Have I known you that long, Mark? I remember a photo of Peg as a young lady. You all went to observe a trial day,but had no dogs there yourselves. & Peg had a litter mate who was there. & when they saw each other, they exchanged strong greetings.

Am I right. That was young Peg?

  • Sorry to hear Peg is ailing. Wishing you the best.
  • Sorry to hear about this, Mark. This happened to one of my old dogs - he was 13 at the time, a sheltie/border collie mix. He did recover and lived for 2 more years. But it was frightening when it happened. Hopefully Peg will be able to recover and will feel better soon. Sending healing thoughts her way from Buttons and I.

  • It's hard to watch them deteriorate. Lassie my oldest Collie is 15.5 years old and she has difficulty with stairs, getting up from laying down and she leaks a little as well.
  • Good news is Peg ate this morning; last night she didn't want any treats after her bathroom turnout.
