This is where I'd have to disagree with you. Many of the special or prescription diets are made with specific diseases or conditions in mind, and they DO WORK.
The only way the prescriber makes any money from this situation is if they charge for writing the prescription or make you pay for an exam in order to get the prescription.

Maybe it helps and they do charge. I respect your DVM and ask these questions not as an argument but to educate. Why is the prescription and renewal of prescription required? Are there drugs in the food that are harmful? I can't imagine anyone would pay more to give the special food to a healthy dog? Thanks for your professional input.
